Tone It Up 5 Day Detox Results

As I mentioned Last week I did the Tone It Up 5 day detox and here are my results:

Pounds lost: 4

I don’t know about you all but I can definitely see a difference.

By the end of the detox I overall just felt better.During the detox I had more energy and my body recovered from my workouts faster.

Also, this might sound silly but I was in a better mood.

I will definitely be doing the detox again! It’s amazing how 5 days of eating lean, clean & green can have such a big impact on your body.

Guess what started today? The Tone It Up Love Your Body challenge. This will be my first challenge post cancer treatment and I cannot think of a better challenge than love your body. This challenge is all about loving you, your body, all while challenging it.

I took my before pictures today and let’s just say I was not pleased. I think I had a little too many cookies over the holidays. Love your body could not come at a better time because I’m ready!

Comfortable and Casual in South Carolina

Hi babes,

We made it to Myrtle Beach (MB!) yay! It took us 16 hours to get here (usually takes 12!) but we now will have a car down here. We are leaving a car here so when we come and won’t have to rent one. We are flying back to New Jersey on Wednesday. It’s so warm here I opted to wear a sweater and jeans so I don’t have to wear a coat.

A lot of you have been asking me about Tone It Up with the new year coming up. So I put together a TIU FAQ.

  • Is Tone It Up worth the money?
  • In my opinion absolutely. Tone It Up is expensive however you are buying a lifetime membership. When you pay the $150 you get all the past challenge pa me and all the future challenge packs plus the nutrition plan. I have been a member since 2013 and it’s the best $150 I’ve ever spent because it’s changed my life.
    • Is Tone It Up vegan?
  • When you buy the plan you can buy the regular, vegetarian, or gluten free version.
    • Does Tone It Up work?
  • It works for me. Of course everyone is different, however; this is the first lifestyle I have followed and had success with. I say lifestyle because I don’t consider Tone It Up a doer. Prior to this I tried plenty of diets but never stuck to or had success with anything.
    • What is Tone It Up?
  • Tone It Up was founded by Katrina Scott and Karena Dawn according to the Tone It Up website it is “a community of women, inspiring and supporting one another to live the life of your dreams; fit, healthy, and happy!”.
    • When is the Tone It Up bikini series?
  • The bikini series is a challenge that begins each January and is completely free. It’s a great way to learn more about Tone It Up without paying for the program.
    • Where is the Tone It Up headquarters?
  • They are headquarter in Manhattan Beach, California.
    • What is Tone It Up studio?
  • Studio Tone It Up is a monthly subscription app where you can do live or on demand workouts with the Tone It Up Trainers. There are varies categories such as kettlebells, abs, arms, legs, etc.. You can try it for free for 5 days!

  • No, Tone It Up cost $150 for a lifetime membership.
    • What is Tone It Up protein?
  • Tone It Up Protein is a plant based protein that Tone It Up makes and is sold on Toneitup.com, Target or at Whole Foods. It’s so good, I love it, especially the chocolate!

    Meditation

    Hi babes,

    During this time of year it’s easy to get really stressed and worked up over small things. I know I’m guilty of it and got a little to testy with the Amazon representative on the phone today when I know she was just doing her job.

    One thing I like to do when I get stressed it meditate. When I first started to meditate I used the headspace app on my phone to guide my meditation.

    According to Healthline 12 benefits of meditating are:

    1. Reduces Stress: Normally, mental and physical stress cause increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol. This produces many of the harmful effects of stress, such as the release of inflammation-promoting chemicals called cytokines. 

    These effects can disrupt sleep, promote depression and anxiety, increase blood pressure and contribute to fatigue and cloudy thinking. 

    In an eight-week study, a meditation style called “mindfulness meditation” reduced the inflammation response caused by stress (2).

    2. Controls Anxiety: Less stress translates to less anxiety.

    3. Promotes Emotional Health: Some forms of meditation can also lead to an improved self-image and more positive outlook on life. 

    Two studies of mindfulness meditation found decreased depression in over 4,600 adults (1, 14).

    4. Enhances Self Awareness: Some forms of meditation may help you develop a stronger understanding of yourself, helping you grow into your best self.

    5. Lengthens Attention Span: Focused-attention meditation is like weight lifting for your attention span. It helps increase the strength and endurance of your attention. 

    6. May Reduce Age-related Memory Loss: Improvements in attention and clarity of thinking may help keep your mind young. 

    A review of 12 studies found that multiple meditation styles increased attention, memory and mental quickness in older volunteers (28).

    7. Can Generate Kindness: Some types of meditation may particularly increase positive feelings and actions toward yourself and others.

    8. May Help Fight Addictions: The mental discipline you can develop through meditation may help you break dependencies by increasing your self-control and awareness of triggers for addictive behaviors (34).

    Research has shown that meditation may help people learn to redirect their attention, increase their willpower, control their emotions and impulses and increase their understanding of the causes behind their addictive behaviors (35, 36).

    9. Improves Sleep: Nearly half the population will struggle with insomnia at some point. 

    One study compared two mindfulness-based meditation programs by randomly assigning participants to one of two groups. One group practiced meditation, while the other didn’t.

    Participants who meditated fell asleep sooner and stayed asleep longer, compared to those who didn’t meditate (39).

    10. Helps Control Pain: Your perception of pain is connected to your state of mind, and it can be elevated in stressful conditions. 

    11. Can Reduce Blood Pressure: Meditation can also improve physical health by reducing strain on the heart. 

    Over time, high blood pressure makes the heart work harder to pump blood, which can lead to poor heart function. 

    High blood pressure also contributes to atherosclerosis, or narrowing of the arteries, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

    12. You Cab Meditate Anywhere: People practice many different forms of meditation, most of which don’t require specialized equipment or space. You can practice with just a few minutes daily.

    If you want to start meditating, try choosing a form of meditation based on what you want to get out of it.

    Wellness Wednesday: Natural Deodorant Reviews

    For today’s Wellness Wednesday we are talking about deodorant and in particular natural deodorant! I made the switch over to natural deodorant about a year ago and I’ve spent the year trying to find the best natural deodorant!

    I’m going to start with my favorite and then give you a review of each one.

    My favorite is Kopari Coconut natural deodorant.

    The deodorant smells good, goes on clear and stays clear, and doesn’t leave you smelly at the end of the day. It’s also really smoothing and moisturizing. When you do get your sweat on you smell like coconut!

    Toms natural deodorant was the cheapest and easiest option to find. I was able to go to my local Target and get it, however; I felt like I smelt funky by the end of the day when I used it. And if I went to the gym I reapplied before and after my workout in fear I would smell bad.

    Schmidt’s Natural deodorant was the first one I tried. The review were good on Amazon and I was able to order right on the website. I thought this was ok, my biggest complaint is it didn’t go on clear and often got on my clothes. I do feel it kept from smelling through my day but I had to reapply before a workout.

    Finally, the last deodorant I tried was Green Tidings natural deodorant. This was also available on Amazon and had the cleanest ingredients, however; I only wore it for a few days before I had to throw it out. I felt like I smelled immediately after putting it on and didn’t think it worked at all.
